Over
the last year or so I have been contemplating to CNC my Lathe, but every time
I felt it was not a good thing to do, the BH600 is a good lathe for manual
work and to many limitations would arise from converting it.
I then started to look at cheaper smaller machine to convert, That also did not seem sensible so I started to look for small CNC machines like the Denford. On Jan 29th I won an auction for a used Emcoturn 120P...still can not believe it I picked it up a few days later from a very friendly bunch of people at Dugard Ltd. I then spend two weeks sorting out the workshop to be able to house this beast, this involved chopping of a 1mtr section of the workshop The machine was stored at work, where I
removed the shuttle load parts and any heavy bits . The base sprouted
wheels, so that the machine could be moved around the workshop. Then with the help trusty Harry and Harichandra and my neighbour we moved it in the workshop, (10mm to spare each side of the door opening) The spindle drive is removed, as it is 3phase only, I will replace this with an AC motor and inverter. The latch is going to be controlled from a PC running mach, So most of the control boards are being removed. Currently working on getting the steppers to talk 5V rather then the Emco 20V.. which I succeeded in .....More to come other bits in workshop pictures page
